Ask Maxine your Social Security questions.

Call her, or chat with her right here, 24/7. She looks the answer up in the government’s own rulebooks and tells you where it comes from.

Maxine explains how Social Security and Medicare work, in plain English, for people planning their claim and for the advisors who help them.

What happens when you call Maxine?

You talk to her the way you’d talk to someone who knows the rules. Short answers, one question at a time, and no hold music.

  1. She says what she is.

Her first sentence tells you she is an AI and that the call is recorded, and asks you not to share your Social Security number.

  2. You ask in your own words.

Claiming ages from 62 to 70, spousal, survivor and divorced-spouse benefits, working while you collect, cost-of-living raises, how benefits are taxed, the WEP and GPO repeal, IRMAA and Medicare basics.

  3. She looks the rule up.

For questions beyond her everyday basics, she searches Social Security’s and Medicare’s own rulebooks while you wait and tells you which agency the rule comes from. Ask, and she gives you the exact section.

  4. You get a summary by email.

If you want one: your question, a short recap, the government sources with links, Social Security’s pages and phone number, and a link to start your own analysis.

Links by text, only if you say yes

Maxine can text you up to two links on a call, only to the number you’re calling from: a MySSAgent page, or Social Security’s own page for your topic. She asks first, every time. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. You can’t text her a question; her number takes calls.

What we keep from a call, and for how long, is in section 11 of our privacy policy.

What does Maxine do in the website chat?

The same questions, in writing, with her sources listed under each answer and linked, so you can read the rule yourself. Once you have your results, you can ask her about them too.

She looks rules up in four places, all published by the government:

For advisors

How do advisors use Maxine?

On every client’s page, Ask Maxine answers from that client’s own computed analysis: why the analysis lands on the strategy it does, where the break-even sits, what the survivor keeps.

The sources are listed under each answer, and every figure is checked against the client’s analysis. She covers the Social Security rules; the advice is yours. On the dashboard, she also opens in her own window.

The demo runs on sample households. No account needed.

How are Maxine’s answers checked?

Every answer is checked automatically, in code, against what she looked up and the published figures.

  • Only sources she looked up

In the chat, she can cite a section only if she retrieved it for that question. A citation to anything else is flagged and kept off her source list.

  • Every figure, checked

Every dollar figure, percentage and age in a chat answer is checked against your results page, the client’s analysis for advisors, or Social Security’s and Medicare’s published figures. A figure that doesn’t match gets a “Figures not verified” note. On the phone, the check runs after the call, not before she speaks.

  • Tested on every change

Every change to how she answers runs a fixed set of test questions first: real questions with known sources and figures, plus made-up figures the check has to catch.

The analysis itself is different: it runs SSA’s published formulas in code on your real earnings record. How we calculate your answer.

What won’t Maxine do?

  • Give investment, legal or personal tax advice, or compare Social Security with other products.
  • Work out your own benefit on a call. Your own figures come from the MySSAgent analysis, on your real earnings record.
  • Ask for your Social Security number, Medicare number or bank details.
  • Claim to be a person, or to work for Social Security.

If a caller is in danger, she gives the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and 911. For your own Social Security record, call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213.
